MONROE CO. — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man who went missing in Lake Erie Sunday evening.

Deputies say it happened several hundred yards east of the Sandy Creek and Sterling State Park boat channel. Around 5:49 p.m., a 911 call reported that a 23-year-old man from Dearborn went under the water after jumping from a boat and did not resurface. He was not wearing a life jacket.

Several rescue crews searched the area using sonar, but had to stop at 11 p.m. because of unsafe waves. The search is set to resume this morning.

Agencies helping include Frenchtown Township Fire, Monroe City Fire, the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Border Patrol, and dive teams from several counties. The search resumed on Monday morning.

Anyone with information is asked to call 734-243-7070.
