ADRIAN — Five students from the LISD TECH Center earned the prestigious honor of representing Michigan at the 2025 National Conservation Foundation Envirothon in Calgary, Alberta.
The global competition brought together more than 50 teams from across the U.S., Canada, and China to solve complex natural resource challenges.
Each Lenawee County student took on a specialized role in subjects like forestry, wildlife, soil science, and aquatic ecology. The experience has had a positive and lasting impression on the students involved.
In a press release, Wildlife Specialist Makayla Cunningham said, “Representing Michigan was an honor—especially for someone like me, who has always had strong school spirit. We even came up with little chants to stay motivated and have fun. It felt incredible to support our state on a national stage.”
The five LISD students who attended were:
- Makayla Cunningham, for Wildlife Specialist from Adrian High School
- Megan Nadeau, the Team Captain & Aquatic Ecology Specialist from JC/LISD Academy
- Izabella Dusseau, for Soils and Land Use Specialist, also from Adrian High School
- Claire Smith from JC/LISD for Forestry Specialty
- Abbigail Gabbers from Hudson High School for Forestry Specialty
The opportunity was made possible by the LISD, supportive families, and the Lenawee County Conservation District.
