ADRIAN — An Adrian student is one of 50 Michigan residents awarded funding through the state’s Ticket to Tuition giveaway.

Nicholas Curry of Adrian was selected as a $10,000 winner after completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA.

The giveaway, announced by Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist and the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential, offered financial incentives to boost FAFSA completion rates.

More than 21,000 students entered, with 10 receiving $50,000 awards and 40, like Curry, receiving $10,000. The funding is provided through Michigan Education Savings Program accounts.

Officials say completing the FAFSA is the most important step to unlocking scholarships and tuition-free college programs.
