ANN ARBOR — A Michigan animal shelter is asking for the public’s help after a passerby found an emaciated dog on the side of an Ann Arbor road.
The Humane Society of Huron Valley reported in a news release that the dog was brought in on Sunday, July 21st, after it was found covered in urine and feces near the intersection of Chalmers Drive and Washtenaw Avenue.
The dog, which staff have named Chickadee, is roughly 5 years old and is a bulldog mix.
She weighed just 28 pounds, roughly half of what she should, said Tanya Hilgendorf, president and CEO of the shelter, in a statement.
Staff members believe she was used for breeding and then dumped.
MLIVE.com reports that the shelter’s cruelty and rescue team is asking the public for information that could identify who is responsible.
Anyone with details is asked to call the shelter’s cruelty investigation hotline at 734-661-3512.
Contributions toward the care of Chickadee and other animals can be made online at HSHV.org.
