
Octaviano Cantu Burciaga, age 90, passed away July 22, 2025 at home surrounded by his family. Octaviano “Toby” was known to be a very hard-working man and always stayed active. He enjoyed gardening, fixing things (even if they didn’t need it) and watching Michigan Wolverines Football, Basketball and Tiger Baseball. He enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Fort Sheridan, Illinois and was a Korean War Era Veteran. After he was discharged, he worked at Tecumseh Products until he retired and remained very active in life until his death. He is survived by his wife Alice Burciaga of 37 years and children Angela Martinez, Julie Martinez, Adam Martinez, Eric Martinez. Sons from Paulita (Burciaga) Smith, Steve (Ann) Burciaga and Joey (Regina) Burciaga. Siblings Johnny Burciaga, Richard (Isabel) Burciaga, Jesse (Sylvia) Burciaga, Rudy Burciaga, Connie (Arthur) Casares, Augustine Burciaga, Miguel (Betty) Burciaga, Olivia (Gary) Nickelson, Henry (Becky) Burciaga, Robert (Caroline) Burciaga and David (Guadalupe) Burciaga. “Whew!”. He is also survived by many Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great-Great Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Jose and Concepcion Burciaga and brother Jose Jr. Burciaga and three sons Michael Burciaga, Raul Burciaga and Denny Burciaga and first wife Paulita (Cavasos) Smith. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Purse Funeral Home, 2959 N. Adrian Hwy, Adrian, MI, with Pastor George Roig officiating. Military Honors will be performed by the Adrian American Legion Post 97 Honor Guard. Viewing & Visitation will also be on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the time of service at Purse Funeral Home in Adrian, MI.
