ADRIAN — Six Adrian College students are spending their summer break conducting advanced research projects after receiving the college’s 2025 Undergraduate Student Summer Research Grants.

Each student received $1,500, plus housing support if needed, to partner with a faculty mentor on a collaborative research project. Projects range from groundwater contamination and sovereign citizen extremism to AI-driven hearing devices and machine learning in finance.

Among the recipients is Ty Perin, a senior from Hudson, whose geology project explores rare-earth elements in Michigan’s pegmatite formations — a resource increasingly vital to modern technology.

Jonah Watson, a senior from Tecumseh, is using artificial intelligence to analyze links between college alcohol use and student health.

Other students are tackling film research, aquifer pollution, and AI applications for accessibility and investing, representing majors from environmental studies to computer science. Final project results will be presented during Adrian College’s Ribbons of Excellence Conference in April 2026.
