ADRIAN — A Lenawee County businessman was sentenced to jail time and over $1.7 million in restitution after pleading guilty to felony embezzlement. Kevin King, an employee* of King Tool Inc., admitted to embezzling more than $100,000 and was sentenced in circuit court on July 11.

The case was filed by the Lenawee County Prosecutor’s Office following an investigation by Adrian Police. King pled guilty on May 28 in front of 39th Circuit Court Judge Anna Marie Anzalone. He was originally charged with one count of embezzlement of $100,000 or more under Michigan Penal Code 750.1747.

According to court records, King was sentenced to one year in jail with credit for one day served. He was also placed on probation for 36 months and ordered to pay $1,730,500.60 in restitution. Additional financial penalties included $750 in court costs, $130 in crime victim rights fees, $68 in state minimum costs, and a $60 DNA assessment. King was immediately taken into custody following sentencing. His probation conditions prohibit gambling and require that all future tax refunds be applied to restitution.

The restitution deadline is July 11, 2035. If King had paid $40,000 before sentencing, half of the jail time would have been suspended. That condition was not met.

The case is now closed. King is incarcerated and will report to probation after his release. The restitution process will be monitored by the court for the next decade.
