LENAWEE CO. — Lenawee County has approved a reclassification for its Specialty Court Administrator — a role that oversees both the Recovery Court and the Veterans Treatment Court.

The change adjusts the position’s pay scale and classification, aligning it with similar roles across other counties. Officials say the job was not included in the county’s original wage study due to a lack of direct comparisons at the time. New data from neighboring jurisdictions helped inform the update.

The administrator plays a key role in managing programs that serve individuals struggling with substance abuse or reintegration after military service. These courts focus on rehabilitation and structured accountability, often serving as alternatives to traditional sentencing.

Supporters of the reclassification emphasized the complexity of the position and its impact on some of the justice system’s most vulnerable participants.

The updated classification does not create a new position, but increases the recognized responsibility and compensation attached to it.
