LANSING — Representative Debbie Dingell is sounding the alarm on a Republican tax plan she says would devastate Michigan’s economy and the U.S. auto industry.
Dingell said the bill—referred to as “One Big Beautiful Bill”—would slash clean energy and electric vehicle investments, driving up utility bills and threatening tens of thousands of jobs across the state.
Labor and environmental leaders joined Dingell, warning the plan could raise energy costs by over $100 next year and eliminate up to 25,000 Michigan jobs.
The proposal could also severely impact Michigan’s growing electric vehicle sector, potentially cutting nearly 16,000 jobs and canceling planned EV manufacturing capacity.
Dingell said the bill favors billionaires over working families and would undo years of progress in clean energy, healthcare, and auto manufacturing.
She plans to vote against the measure when it comes to the U.S. House later this week.
