ADRIAN — Lenawee County officials are increasing oversight on a youth incentive card program funded through the child care fund. The program provides gift cards, encouraging youth participation in court-ordered and probation-related activities.
The incentive card program is intended to support positive engagement for local youth involved in the court system. The county has recently seen an increase in the number of cards being distributed and is working to maintain strong financial controls.
Officials said checks and balances are in place to track the distribution of the cards, including detailed documentation, physical inventory counts, and reconciliation between departments. County Administrator Kim Murphy and finance staff regularly review the process and recommend additional safeguards to tighten oversight further.
The child care fund primarily funds the program, with a smaller portion covered by the county’s general fund.
County officials said they will continue monitoring the program to ensure funds are appropriately used and provide updates as additional accountability measures are implemented.
