ADRIAN — As part of the city’s bicentennial celebration, Adrian will open a time capsule that was buried 50 years ago on July 4, 1975, at Comstock Park.
The time capsule is located near the Rotary Clock Tower at the corner of College Avenue and Maumee Street. It was initially placed by the Daughters of the American Revolution to mark the city’s 175th anniversary. The capsule’s contents will be displayed at the Adrian District Library throughout the bicentennial weekend.
The unveiling ceremony is scheduled for noon on July 4. In addition to opening the capsule, a new historical marker will be dedicated, and the Adrian Dominican Sisters will offer a reading to acknowledge the indigenous people who lived in the area before Adrian’s settlement.
The time capsule ceremony is one of several events scheduled for the bicentennial weekend, which takes place from July 3 to July 6.
The city will also bury a new time capsule on July 6 to preserve memories from Adrian’s 200th anniversary for future generations. A full schedule of bicentennial events is available on the City of Adrian website.
