
Philip Thomas Marvin II, age 57, of Hillsdale, MI, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Hillsdale, MI on Monday, June 16, 2025. He was born in Hudson, MI, on August 20, 1967, the son of Phil Thomas and Ellen Marie (Hartley) Marvin, and they survive.
Phil graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1985, followed by his BA degree from Siena Heights University, and his Master’s Degree from Spring Arbor College. He then went on to become a beloved elementary school teacher in the Hillsdale Community School system for thirty-three-years. He was a devoted member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Tecumseh, MI, where he played on their softball team for over thirty years, and also belonged to the Tecumseh Knights of Columbus. Phil was a teacher who was very involved with everything within the Hillsdale Community Schools. Outside of school he was an avid reader, who was a whiz at trivia, especially sports trivia. He was a huge fan of Detroit and University of Michigan sports teams, and they were his absolute favorites. But most of all, Phil loved his family very deeply, and he had a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Phil is survived by his sisters, Bridget (Stan) Ames, and Elizabeth (John) Phelan, both of Tecumseh, MI, and his brother, Patrick (Dawn) Marvin of Brooklyn, MI; his nieces and nephews, Broderick Ames, Emily (Josh) Phelan Nowak, Aurora (Leyton) Gaishin, Cormac Phelan, and Hartley Marvin; also several aunts, uncles, cousins, close friends, as well as the Hillsdale Community Schools family. Phil was preceded in death by his niece, Brittany Ames.
Visitation for Phil will take place at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Tecumseh, MI, on Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and also from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, with a prayer service at 7:30 pm. Visitation will also be held at St. Elizabeth from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm on Monday, June 23, 2025, followed at noon by a Funeral Mass with Fr. Dan Wheeler as celebrant. Interment in Brookside Cemetery in Tecumseh, MI, will take place immediately after the Mass. Memorial contributions in honor of Phil may be made to the Brittany E. Ames Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund or to the Hillsdale Community Schools.
