Dorothy Ann Schmidt, age 86, of Adrian, MI, passed away, May 12, 2025. She was born April 21, 1939, in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Maurice & Myrtle (Cassity) Smit. Dorothy was a graduate of Eastern Michigan University and a lifelong learner. She was active in Toastmasters, sang in the choir at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Adrian. She played flute with the Adrian City Band and volunteered with Civitan as some of her many activities. She is survived by her children, Theresa Thorkildsen, Patricia (Charles) Mangus, Stephen (Holliday) Schmidt, Mary Catherine Spencer, Karyn Giddens and James (Maribeth) Schmidt; fourteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Also, two brothers, Raymond (Donna) Smit and Richard (Doloris) Smit; and one sister, Marjorie Hutchinson. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Linda Giddens; sister Marie Pierson; and brothers, Herbert and John Smit. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Purse Funeral Home, 2959 N. Adrian Hwy, Adrian, MI, with Deacon Leonard Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Viewing and Visitation will also be on Saturday from 12:00 PM until the time of the funeral service.
