ADRIAN — Lenawee County is still waiting for state approval to move forward with its updated Materials Management Plan — a delay that’s holding up new recycling and composting initiatives.

Solid Waste Coordinator Julie Maurer shared the update during Wednesday’s Materials Management Planning Committee meeting, saying the state’s Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy — or EGLE — has not yet released funding.

Maurer added that the county is ready to launch programs like composting and expanded recycling once the funding is unlocked. She also highlighted a recent collaboration with Adrian College and the LISD on an anaerobic digester project.

The committee noted that other counties are also waiting for EGLE approval, though many are still in earlier planning stages.
