Patrick Michael Collins April 4, 1954-May 2, 2024
Patrick was born in Adrian MI to Thomas and Janet (Conser) Collins. The first born of 8 siblings, his mother often described him as her “high spirited, beautiful” son, as he was known for his whole life.
Patrick attended St. Mary’s and Catholic Central schools where he served as an altar boy. He participated in many sports and was fortunate to have been coached by his father, Tom, during some of these years. He formed some of his closest lifelong friendships during this period in his life. He went on to attend Adrian HS where he excelled in wrestling. During his senior year, his wrestling team won the state championship title under the direction of coach Dennis Hill. These meaningful friendships truly continued through his lifetime.
Soon, he moved to California and settled in beautiful Santa Barbara where he lived for over 30 years. While there, he met the Douglas family, who were well known and respected for owning and operating a multigenerational custom flooring business. He apprenticed with them and learned and honed his own custom flooring skills. He eventually opened his own business, COLLINS CUSTOM HARDWOOD FLOORS. He took great pride in owning and operating his business and built a reputation of excellence in his craft.
In his later years, Patrick was happy to return to Adrian and be near his family and friends again. He loved the beauty and changing seasons of Michigan. He loved being able to run into someone he knew, share a good laugh and a hug, and tell one of his many stories. He continued his custom flooring business. A highlight of his career was having had the honor of doing the restoration of Downs Hall at Adrian College. He loved to read; he especially enjoyed WWI, WWII, and the Viking era. He also had the opportunity to travel to Europe with his two brothers. Patrick married his high school sweetheart, Marcie Synder. Together, they had a son, Jason William Collins. He was so proud of Jason and his two granddaughters.
He is survived by son Jason, and granddaughters Patricia Collins and Ashley Collins, all of Arizona. He is also survived by siblings Deborah, Kristin (Johnnie), Laura (Steve), Michael (Linda), Kathleen (Jesse), Rachel, Thomas (Morgan), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved dearly. He is preceded in death by Marcie Collins and his parents, Thomas and Janet Collins. Rite of committal will take place at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery June 14, 2025, with Fr. Mike Newnan officiating. A celebration of life with family and friends to follow.
