CAMBRIDGE TWP., Mich. Cambridge Township is working to finalize new ordinances for wind energy, solar systems, and battery storage — but community members and local leaders say public feedback has been limited.

Spencer Combs with Citizens for Protecting Irish Hills says concerns include low-frequency noise from wind turbines and the need for fire suppression systems for battery storage units.

Planning Commission Chair Rick Streams said the issue wasn’t awareness, but timely engagement. While the public was informed, he noted that many comments and questions arrived too late, causing the committee to delay any forward momentum. Residents had until 4 p.m. the day of the hearing to submit written feedback.

That was Cambridge Township Planning Commission Chair Rick Streams.

The hearing concluded with the committees returning to their respective groups to review public comments and evaluate potential adjustments to each proposed ordinance. No votes were taken, and further discussion is expected before any final decisions are made.
