ADRIAN, Mich. — Adrian Public Schools will soon expand access to free preschool, thanks to a major state initiative aimed at supporting early childhood education.

Superintendent Nate Parker says the district is opening two new classrooms at Prairie Elementary under Michigan’s Great Start Readiness Program. The expansion comes as the state moves to make four-year-old programming free for families.

That was Superintendent Nate Parker. He says the new classrooms will allow Adrian to serve more families who were previously excluded from Head Start due to income limits. The Great Start Readiness Program is a key initiative under Governor Gretchen Whitmer, focused on preparing children statewide for kindergarten and long-term academic success.

Enrollment will begin ahead of the next school year. The program is open to families throughout Lenawee County.
