ADRIAN, Mich. — Adrian Mayor Angie Sword Heath will run unopposed this fall after a paperwork error disqualified her only challenger from the ballot.

Originally, former commissioner Allen Heldt was expected to face Heath in a rematch of the 2023 race. However, Heldt missed a required question on his affidavit. That omission led the county clerk to reject his filing, leaving Heath uncontested for a fourth term.

There will also be changes coming to the Adrian City Commission. Incumbent Kelly Castleberry did not file for re-election, guaranteeing at least one new member will join the board.

Six candidates are in the running for three open commission seats. Incumbents Gordon Gauss and Doug Miller will seek another term. They’re joined by newcomers Aaron Chesher, James Trull, Charles Moore Jr., and Tiffany Zych.

No primary will be held, as the number of candidates did not exceed the threshold required for one.
