ADRIAN, Mich. The Adrian District Library is giving books—and literacy—a boost with its new “Bingo for Books” series.

Assistant Director Chelsey Boss says the idea was simple: combine a fun game with a love of reading.

“Everybody likes bingo,” Chelsey Boss, the Assistant Director stated, “And since we always want to promote literacy and reading we thought it would be a fun way to give books to the community and keep our patrons involved with the library.”

The event is open to all ages, with a version for adults now running through the summer. Winners, and even non-winners, go home with free books, thanks to donations from the Friends of the Library.

Boss says the books come from duplicates in the library’s collection or donations that can be recirculated back into the community.

Next up is the library’s Summer Reading Program kickoff on June 7. The event will feature crafts, face painting, music, and more, all part of this year’s theme: ‘Color Our World.’
