Protest Yields Hundreds of Donations

ADRIAN, Mich. — An Adrian protest that drew hundreds to the Old Courthouse last weekend is now making a tangible impact through local giving.

Organizer Allie Quinn confirmed this week that more than 600 nonperishable food items were collected during Saturday’s demonstration and have since been donated to Daily Bread of Lenawee. The donation drive was built into the event from the start, Quinn said, as part of a broader effort to connect political action with community care.

The demonstration was part of the nationwide 50/50/1 movement, a grassroots campaign demanding economic justice, stronger labor protections, and an end to unchecked corporate influence in politics. Adrian’s protest joined dozens of others across the country held on April 19, calling attention to the growing economic inequality and political instability many feel is going unaddressed.

In Adrian, the protest brought together more than 300 residents despite overcast skies and occasional rain. It was held in front of the Old Courthouse, a location Quinn says was chosen deliberately to draw attention to the local roots of national issues.

Organizers say they’re already planning follow-up events in Adrian, with a goal of keeping both the pressure and the compassion alive.

WLEN will continue to follow the 50/50/1 movement as it develops in Lenawee County.
