Lansing, MI – Senator Joseph Bellino has introduced legislation to support students in military families as they transition into new schools across Michigan. Senate Bill 211 would establish a Purple Star Program under the Michigan Department of Education, aimed at easing the academic and emotional challenges military-connected students often face when relocating.

The Senator stated, “Children in military families can face significant learning challenges when they enter a new school as a result of their service mom or dad having to relocate due to a new duty station assignment. When we support our military personnel, we must also support their families during these changes.”

If passed, the Purple Star Program would be in place by January 1, 2026.
