Fredrick (Fred) Alan Prezioso, age 84, passed away on April 9, 2025 at the Hospice of Lenawee, with his devoted wife, Nanci (Pelham) Prezioso, by his side. Fred and Nanci were married on May 26, 1984, and shared over 40 years of love, laughter, and partnership.
Born on June 26, 1940, in Pearl River, New York, Fred was the son of Marguerite (Post) and Emanuel Prezioso. He was a lifelong learner who earned a Bachelor of Science from Syracuse University, a Master of Divinity from Lutheran Theological Seminary, a Master of Arts in Addiction Counseling from Siena Heights University, and a Master of Social Work from Eastern Michigan University.
Fred dedicated his life to helping others, particularly in the field of substance abuse counseling. His career included service at Chelsea Hospital, Saline Hospital, and many years at Trinity Health/Greenbrook Recovery in Ypsilanti, Michigan (formerly St. Joseph Healthcare). He retired in 2020 due to health issues, the same year he received a life-changing kidney transplant—an incredible gift that allowed him cherished extra time with those he loved.
Fred found joy in the simple things—fishing, tending to his yard, and watching birds. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends. He was known for his strong spirit and physical strength—a favorite family story recalls Fred proudly winning a push-up contest against his grandsons and then against his son in law, to everyone’s delight.
He is survived by his son, Don (Pam) Prezioso; daughter, Karen (Laurent) Marx; and stepdaughter, Brandi Feldkamp; along with nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Alice Pelham, and close friend and fishing companion, Dan Gensch.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Richard Pelham; his grandson, Andrew Prezioso; stepdaughter, Michelle Hawkins; and three sisters and two brothers.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the University of Toledo Medical Center’s Department of Nephrology for five years of outstanding care, and to Hospice of Lenawee for their compassionate support during Fred’s final days.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for family and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Lenawee or the American Kidney Fund in Fred’s memory.
