Adrian, MI – A U.S. Army veteran and supporter of the Adrian community, Philip Hughes, passed away earlier this week at the age of 96.

Phil was born 1928, in Hudson, graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Adrian and later attended the University of Dayton and the University of Toledo. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed at U.S. Far East Command in Tokyo, Japan. In 1966, he married Nell Ann Johnston at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Adrian.

His obituary outlined his line of work… spending his entire career working at Typewriter Sales and Service. From sweeping floors during high school to managing The Bookstore in the ‘60’s to over 30 years on North Main Street, he was always there to help.

Phil continued to support the community and people that he cared for in his retirement – first as his wife Ann founded the Adrian Area Chamber of Commerce, and later when she started Ann’s By Design.

The funeral liturgy for Philip Hughes will be offered at 10:30am, March 31st at Holy Family Parish, St. Mary Campus in Adrian. Visitation will take place at the church one hour prior to the service.
