
Dewayne Antoin Ballard Jr., age 62, passed away on February 21, 2025 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI, surrounded by a couple of loved ones. Born on June 18, 1962, in Savannah, Georgia and lifelong resident of Pumpkin Center, Louisiana. Dewayne was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Dewayne proudly served in the Navy, dedicating many years to his country. He is survived by his loving wife, Lois Matthews Ballard; his daughter, Lela Lytell, and her husband Nicholas; his son, Stephen Carter, and his wife Stacy; and his son, Dewayne Antoin Ballard III, also known as Tony, and his husband Scott. He was also a cherished grandfather to his two granddaughters, Alexis and Valerie McDonald. Dewayne is also survived by his sisters, Dee Lee and her husband Kevin, Michelle Garisco and her husband Tony; and his brother David Ballard and his wife Anita, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Dewayne Antoin Ballard Sr., and his grandparents, Dorothy and Norman Bourgeois. Dewayne was known for his infectious sense of humor and his love for making people laugh. He cherished spending time with his friends and family, always bringing joy and laughter to those around him. He was a devoted and loving father, husband, and friend, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held to celebrate Dewayne’s life on a later date.
