Lansing, MI – State Representative Nancy Jenkins-Arno has released a statement praising the House bills which restore protections of tip wages, reasonable minimum wage and paid leave requirements on small businesses.

Jenkins-Arno is a member of the newly formed Select Committee on Protecting Michigan Employees and Small Businesses, who heard testimony from Michigan servers on House Bills 4001 and 4002 on Wednesday.

In her statement, Jenkins-Arno said that she was
encouraged to see that these issues, which are so important to small business owners and employees in Lenawee County and across the state, were taken up so quickly by the House Republican Majority.”

She continued by saying, “The hours of testimony that the committee heard this week showed how passionate our people are about preserving our current tip wage and paid leave levels… It’s important to listen to our own people who are directly affected by these issues, rather than outside interests that are trying to impose their values on our state.”

House Bill 4001, which stops tipped employees from becoming minimum wage workers, has advanced with bipartisan support in the Michigan House, with all Republicans and all but one Democrat approving.
