ADRIAN — During National Police Week, Congressman Tim Walberg voted for two House bills focused on bail policies and law enforcement transparency.

One bill, the Keeping Violent Offenders Off Our Streets Act, would require bail bond groups to follow federal insurance fraud laws and background check requirements by treating bail bonds as insurance products.

Another measure, the Cashless Bail Reporting Act, would require the U.S. Attorney General to publish a public list of jurisdictions that allow certain serious offenders to be released without cash bail.

Supporters say the bills improve accountability and public safety, while critics argue they target bail reform efforts and could disproportionately affect low-income defendants.
