LANSING — Wind energy projects are generating millions of dollars for Michigan schools through added tax revenue, according to supporters of renewable energy expansion.

Education leaders say the funding has helped districts pay for infrastructure upgrades, technology purchases and debt relief without raising local taxes.

State data shows wind-generated power now provides nearly 8 percent of Michigan’s electricity and powers more than one million homes.

Critics continue to raise concerns about land use, noise, visual impact and long-term reliability as development expands statewide.
