BLISSFIELD — Blissfield High School’s robotics team is heading to the FIRST World Championship in Houston, Texas.

The Flying Octopi, earned a late invitation after last weekend’s Michigan State Robotics Championship at Saginaw Valley State University.

The team had finished 137th out of 530 Michigan teams to qualify for state competition, where a mechanical issue sidelined their robot and left them 86th overall. Despite that setback, openings from other teams declining bids moved Blissfield into the world field.

The program includes 20 students and 9 mentors.

Their 2026 robot, Flapjack, was designed and built in under eight weeks. The team is now seeking $18,000 for registration and travel expenses.
