ADRIAN — The City of Adrian Parks & Recreation Department has provided an update on the ongoing restoration of Monument Park, including plans to restore and rearrange the park’s signature cannons.
During Monday’s City Commission meeting, Interim Director Matt Tomaszewski presented a list of proposed repairs and updates to the park.
The focus of the presentation was on the cannons, which currently sit on circular concrete pads around the monument.
Tomaszewski proposed that the cannons be temporarily removed and restored while the current concrete pads are replaced with rectangular pads on wooden bases, all at a cost of about $3,000.
Once the new bases are installed, the cannons would be reoriented to be symmetrical to the monument.
Additional repairs to the park site could include tree removals, sidewalk replacements, new benches and fence cleaning.
