LANSING — With diesel prices remaining high, commercial truck operators in Michigan and across the country are paying closer attention to the growing market for zero-emission trucks.
A new report says electric and hydrogen-powered trucks have continued carving out a larger share of the transportation market, even as overall growth has slowed in some areas. Supporters of the shift say many commercial vehicles travel relatively short, predictable routes, making them a practical fit for electrification.
Michigan is also pushing that transition through state fleet electrification goals, charging infrastructure development, and new electric work vehicles.
The report adds that fleet operators are weighing long-term fuel savings, training needs, and infrastructure costs as they decide how quickly to move away from diesel.
