ADRIAN — A new proposal aimed at addressing failing septic systems in Lenawee County was presented during the recent Board of Health meeting.
Officials heard from Sue Macauley with Citizens Protect Irish Hills, who outlined a potential countywide septic inspection program focused on protecting local water quality and public health.
Macauley told the board that aging systems and a lack of statewide regulation have contributed to contamination concerns, including elevated bacteria levels in local waterways.
The proposal includes options such as requiring inspections every five years or at the time of property sale, with supporters arguing action is needed locally rather than waiting on state legislation that could take years to implement.
The presentation was for discussion only, with no formal action taken by the Board of Health.
