ADRIAN — The City of Adrian is reminding residents and business owners to make sure their address numbers are clearly visible, citing safety concerns for emergency response.

City officials say properly displayed addresses help police, fire, and medical crews quickly locate properties, especially during emergencies. The reminder comes with a focus on downtown buildings, where entrances may not be easy to see from the street.

Under the Michigan Building Code, all buildings must have address numbers that are clearly visible from the road, use standard numbers or letters, and are at least four inches tall. The numbers must also contrast with their background to remain easy to read.

The city is encouraging property owners and tenants to step outside and check that their address is visible, unobstructed, and meets code requirements.

Officials say clear address markings can reduce response times and improve overall safety across the community.
