LENAWEE CO. — Several Lenawee County communities are being recognized for their commitment to urban forestry.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources announced this week that multiple local municipalities have earned 2025 Tree City USA designation through the Arbor Day Foundation.

In Lenawee County, the cities of Adrian, Tecumseh, and Morenci were all included on this year’s list of more than 120 communities statewide.

Petersburg in Monroe County was also included on the list.

The Tree City USA program recognizes communities that meet national standards for managing and expanding public tree care, including maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least two dollars per capita on forestry, and celebrating Arbor Day.

State officials say the designation reflects long-term investment in public trees, which provide environmental benefits, improve quality of life, and support community development.

This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the Tree City USA program.
