ADRIAN — The Hispanics of Lenawee Alliance is condemning allegations of sexual abuse and misconduct involving Cesar Chavez, calling the reports deeply troubling.
In a statement released Thursday, the organization said it stands fully with survivors and will not excuse or minimize the allegations.
HOLA also acknowledged its past role in supporting Cesar Chavez memorial street signs on Gulf Street, saying it was unaware of any allegations at the time and intended only to honor local farm workers and the broader labor movement.
The group now plans to move forward with removing the street designation, stating the community’s history should not be represented by someone accused of harming others.
HOLA says it will host public forums to gather input on what should replace the signage, emphasizing transparency and community involvement moving forward.
