ADRIAN — Lenawee County Commissioners received an update Thursday on how opioid settlement funds may soon be spent in the community.

The Bridging the Gap Subcommittee reported it had finalized a first round of recommendations totaling just under 1.5 million dollars, aimed at expanding services for people dealing with substance use disorder.

Plans included school-based intervention, treatment access for insured and uninsured residents, counseling, and expanded drug take-back programs.

The update followed recent meetings where the subcommittee reviewed proposals ranging from expanded telehealth recovery services to peer support programs and medically assisted treatment at the county jail.

Commissioners were also asked to opt into an additional national opioid settlement that could bring in roughly 24,000 thousand more for local efforts.

Commissioner Kevon Martis said in a statement, “I can not be more pleased with our team…They all share a strong passion and deep personal commitment to maximizing our human return on the substantial opioid settlement money.”
