LENAWEE CO. — The Better Business Bureau is alerting consumers about a deadline tied to a federal settlement involving the anonymous messaging app NGL.

The Federal Trade Commission reached a $4.5 million settlement with the company behind the app after allegations it misled users about subscription costs. According to the FTC, some users who signed up for NGL Pro believed they were paying a one-time fee, but were instead charged recurring weekly fees of up to $9.99.

Consumers who paid for NGL Pro between January 2022 and July 2024 and were charged without authorization may be eligible for a refund.

To apply, individuals must submit a claim through the FTC’s website by April 6, 2026. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, or have a parent or guardian file on their behalf.

Officials note that submitting a claim does not guarantee a refund, as payments will depend on the number of claims received and eligibility review.

For more information or assistance, the FTC has set up a claims hotline and email support.
