CLINTON — The Historical Society of Clinton is inviting the public to a program focused on the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression.
The presentation, titled “Putting Young Men to Work During the Great Depression,” will be led by local historian Mark Jenkins.
Jenkins will highlight the role of young men who worked in the CCC, including those stationed at Hayes State Park, and discuss what they accomplished during one of the nation’s most challenging economic periods.
The program will take place tonight, Tuesday, March 24th at 7 p.m. at the Clinton Township Library.
The Civilian Conservation Corps was created in 1932 under President Franklin Delano Roosevelt as part of efforts to combat unemployment during the Great Depression.
Locally, Camp Huron at Hayes State Park operated as a CCC camp from 1933 to 1935.
The event is free and open to the public.
