ADRIAN — The City of Adrian is taking a back-to-basics approach as it works through its upcoming budget.
During a special meeting Monday night, city officials outlined a plan focused on maintaining core services, including police, fire, streets, and utilities, while avoiding new spending commitments.
As part of that strategy, the city is recommending leaving certain positions unfilled for now, including roles in marketing and parks and recreation.
Leaders say those positions are valuable, but not essential compared to public safety and day-to-day operations.
The proposed budget is described as disciplined and sustainable, aimed at protecting current service levels while managing rising costs and avoiding long-term financial strain.
City commissioners will continue reviewing the budget in the coming weeks.
