LANSING — A new study shows most Michigan workers want federal action as concerns grow over artificial intelligence in the workplace.

According to Careerminds, 78% of Michigan employees support a federal “AI Worker Bill of Rights” to protect against job replacement and automation.

Right now, protections vary by state. Illinois recently passed a law requiring employers to disclose AI use in hiring and workplace decisions, but many workers say that’s not enough.

When asked about priorities, 40% said human review of major decisions matters most, followed by transparency at 30%. Trust in employers is mixed, with nearly one in four workers saying they don’t trust their employer at all.

Concerns about job security are widespread; 64% believe AI may have already influenced decisions about their job, and 82% say companies should be required to offer retraining.

Workers also cite surveillance and job loss as top concerns, with more than four in ten saying their job could be replaced by AI within five years. A Careerminds career expert says workers aren’t opposed to AI, but want clear rules, transparency, and a fair chance to adapt.
