MONROE — A Monroe High School student is in custody after an attempted carjacking in the school parking lot.
It happened Thursday afternoon around 3:24 on Herr Road. Deputies say an 18-year-old student was sitting in his car when a 15-year-old approached, asked for a vape, then pulled what appeared to be a revolver and demanded the vehicle.
The victim drove off and wasn’t hurt.
School officials and the resource officer identified the suspect on surveillance video. Deputies later found him at a home on Wildhaven and took him into custody.
Investigators say he was also found with a stolen vehicle, and a pellet gun resembling a real firearm was recovered.
Authorities say he acted alone and there’s no ongoing threat.
The case remains under investigation.
