LANSING — A Lenawee County lawmaker says new steps are being taken to improve transparency in how state money is spent.

State Representative Nancy Jenkins-Arno, who chairs a key House budget subcommittee, says her team is reviewing every direct grant request included in the state budget process.

She says the goal is to ensure each funding request is publicly disclosed, clearly justified, and benefits Michigan residents.

The move follows changes approved last year requiring grant requests to be submitted at least 45 days before budget approval, along with detailed information about who is requesting the funding.

Jenkins-Arno says the process is designed to give taxpayers more insight and prevent last-minute additions to the budget without proper review.

She says holding these reviews publicly will help strengthen accountability and rebuild trust in state government.
