ADRIAN — At Monday’s Adrian City Commission meeting on March 16th, concerns were raised over the lack of a signed agreement tied to several major downtown projects totaling millions of dollars.
Commissioners questioned why a formal Memorandum of Understanding with Lenawee Now had still not been finalized, despite discussions dating back to January. The agreement is intended to clarify roles, responsibilities, and financial oversight for projects including the downtown bike loop and Town Square development.
City officials and the city attorney indicated that while an Memorandum of Understanding is recommended, it is not legally required to move forward. That explanation did little to ease concerns from some commissioners, who warned the city could be taking on unnecessary risk without a formal agreement in place.
Despite those concerns, the commission ultimately approved moving forward with the projects, citing tight timelines tied to state and federal grant funding.
The issue is expected to remain a point of discussion as the projects move ahead, with pressure mounting to finalize the agreement in the coming weeks.
