LANSING — Postal workers in Michigan are drawing attention to workplace safety issues through a new national campaign.
The American Postal Workers Union has launched its “Talk Is Cheap: Safety Matters” campaign, encouraging employees to document and report hazards ranging from unsafe facilities to staffing shortages. Federal workplace safety data show U.S. postal workers experience more than 30,000 job-related injuries each year.
Union leaders say the campaign is meant to encourage workers to speak up about hazards and create a stronger record of safety concerns before injuries occur.
More than 5,000 postal workers are injured on the job each year, according to federal data. Mize says documenting unsafe conditions is the key goal of the campaign and could help prevent future injuries.
