ADRIAN — Residents across Lenawee County may hear tornado sirens later this week as part of a countywide preparedness test.
Emergency officials say many local fire departments will conduct the coordinated tornado siren test Thursday evening at 5:55 p.m. The annual test is scheduled ahead of severe weather season and coincides with County Preparedness Day.
Lenawee County Emergency Management Coordinator Craig Tanis told Dale Gaertner on View Point that the test is also meant to help families practice their emergency plans.
Officials say tornado sirens are managed locally by fire departments. If residents do not hear a siren during the test, they are asked not to call 9-1-1 or emergency management and instead check with their local fire department.
If threatening weather develops anywhere in the county around the time of the test, the siren drill will be postponed.
