JACKSON — The Jackson YMCA is celebrating 130 years of service in the community.

The Jackson YMCA announced the milestone this week, marking more than a century of programs focused on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The organization was founded in 1896 and has served generations of families in Jackson County through fitness programs, youth mentorship and community support services.

Officials say the YMCA has expanded its offerings over time to meet changing community needs. Current programs include youth sports, summer day camp, group fitness classes, personal training and Rock Steady Boxing for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease. The organization also provides financial assistance through its Strong Communities Campaign to help ensure programs remain accessible.

To celebrate the anniversary, the Jackson YMCA is hosting events and promotions throughout March. Activities include zero join fees for new members from March 4 through March 8, early member access to summer camp registration and free cycling classes during the month.

Officials say the anniversary celebration is intended to recognize the organization’s history while continuing to expand services for families and residents across Jackson County.
