TECUMSEH — The Tecumseh Public Schools Board of Education held a Superintendent contract discussion Monday night regarding a proposed three-year extension for Superintendent Matthew Hilton.
The Superintendent contract proposal would run from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2028, replacing Hilton’s current agreement, set to expire this summer. Board President Rebecca Brooks said the discussion follows Hilton’s annual evaluation in December, where he received the district’s highest performance rating.
During the Superintendent contract discussion, trustees cited district performance, leadership stability, and enrollment trends as factors supporting retention. Board members also noted that the proposed salary adjustment would align Hilton’s compensation more closely with that of other Lenawee County superintendents.
Some trustees raised concerns about the district’s current budget challenges and questioned the timing of a contract increase. However, several members emphasized the importance of continuity in leadership as the district addresses financial restructuring, operational reforms, and facility changes, including the upcoming pool demolition.
Board members referenced recent improvements in administrative processes, enrollment movement, and academic performance as indicators of stability under Hilton’s leadership.
The Superintendent contract proposal will move forward for formal board action at an upcoming meeting.
