TECUMSEH — Middle school swim state honors were recognized Monday night as Tecumseh Public Schools celebrated multiple swimmers and divers for standout performances at the state meet.
The recognition came during the Tecumseh Board of Education meeting at Tecumseh High School, where coaches detailed first-place finishes, school record breaks, and two new state records.
Two sixth-grade divers competed against eighth graders across all divisions and placed 18th and 12th overall. Officials noted that the middle school state competition includes schools from third through first divisions, making the placements significant.
One swimmer finished first in both the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle, breaking two school records, one set in 2016 and another that had stood since 1996.
A seventh grader also had a strong season, breaking four school records during the year. At the state meet, she won the 100 individual medley and the 50 butterfly while setting two state records.
Coaches told the board that the team’s success extended beyond results, emphasizing the swimmers’ sportsmanship and ability to compete independently while representing Tecumseh.
The season marks one of the strongest middle school swim performances in recent years, with multiple school and state records now updated in the program’s history.
