
Barbara Sue Hauch, age 77, of Manitou Beach, died peacefully Sunday morning, February 22, 2026, at Hospice of Lenawee surrounded by her family, after a courageous two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born January 6, 1949, in Adrian, she was the daughter of the late Otis and Shirley (Howard) Chatfield.
Barb grew up in Onsted where she graduated high school with the Class of 1967. She kept in touch with her graduating classmates, often gathering together for periodic lunches. Lutheran by faith, Barb was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Adrian. She married the love of her life, Frederick Morton Hauch, on June 19, 1985, in Adrian. Together they owned and operated the Lenawee Farm Bureau Oil Co-Op in Madison. They shared over 28 years of wonderful memories before his passing on February 24, 2014.
Family was the center of Barb’s life. She was a proud, nurturing and supportive mother and grandmother, and she notably never missed a sporting event of one of her children or grandchildren. She enjoyed annual fishing trips up north with her husband and enjoyed collecting Wheat Pennies. She also enjoyed trying her luck at nearby casinos and loved playing games with her family, especially UNO. Her genuine selfless care for others as well as her witty sense of humor will be forever missed.
Surviving are four children, Amy Keefe of Brooklyn, Nathan Six of Charlotte, NC, Megan Hauch of Belleville, MI, and Fred (Brittney) Hauch Jr. of Manitou Beach; her brother, Robert Chatfield of Manitou Beach; brother-in-law, Leon Hunt of Jackson; grandchildren, Sydney, Caleb, Finley, Easton, Emma, Mark Jr., and Reese; nieces and nephews, Shelly, Corey, Debbie and Todd; her best friend, Ginny Hunt of Onsted; and numerous other extended family members.
In addition to her parents and husband, Barb was preceded in her death by her sister, Carol Hunt; sons-in-law, Chris Keefe and Mark Sumpter; and her beloved American Bulldog companions, Tiger, Brody, and Chaughchi.
The family will receive friends for visitation at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home in Adrian on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 26, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Paul Herter officiating. Burial will follow in North Rome Cemetery near Manitou Beach.
Memorial contributions in honor of Barb can be made to benefit Hospice of Lenawee. Arrangements have been made with the guidance of the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian.
