ADRIAN — The Adrian Police Department has released a statement providing updates on its newly-renewed traffic enforcement program.

This program, which returned at the start of the year, saw the addition of an officer assigned to solely monitor the flow of traffic and take enforcement action, with attention focused on the intersections where the most crashes and complaints are reported.

According to the statement, a purpose-built Ford Mustang was leased by the department in place of the standard patrol vehicle, the Chevrolet Tahoe.

The Mustang, with a base cost of over $47,940, is equipped with dual radar antennas, internal LEDs so no lightbar is visible upon approach, and a handheld laser for speed measurement.

Since the return of the program, officers claim to have conducted between 20 to 50 additional traffic stops per day, utilizing all patrol vehicles.

Common offenses range from speeding and disregarding traffic control devices, to cell phone use and loud music.

The increase in traffic stops has reportedly also led to additional arrests for outstanding warrants and drunk driving.
