Clair O. Iffland, age 94, of Ottawa Lake, Michigan, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2026, at his home, under the loving care of his family and the support of Heartland Hospice.

He was born October 8, 1931, in Ogden Township, Michigan, the ninth of twelve children of Elvin and Elizabeth (Kline) Iffland. After graduating from Metamora High School, Clair went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army.

On October 8, 1955, Clair married the love of his life, Doris Smith, in Angola, Indiana, starting an adventure that included working the family farm and raising two children. Clair learned to balance hard work with plenty of time for fun with family and friends. He loved the outdoors and spent time snowmobiling, camping, and taking fishing trips to Canada, all while maintaining an immaculate yard. He and Doris also enjoyed polka dancing and playing cards. His social calendar was filled with Thursday coffee with friends at Becky’s in Blissfield, playing cards at Joe’s in Metamora, and socializing at the Blissfield Senior Center and the Elks in Wauseon. During the many winters spent in Bradenton, Florida, Clair could be found at the Moose Lodge or playing pool.

Clair will be remembered for his ever-present smile and the way he made everyone feel welcome.

In addition to Doris, his wife of over 70 years, he is survived by their son, Cary (Janeen) Iffland; grandchildren, Adam (Mallory) Iffland and Lindsey (Josh) Breitigam; seven great-grandchildren, Bridger, Olive Clair, Wylan, Paisley, Ivan, Calder, and Loxley; and his sister, Wilma Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy Preble; brothers, Lynford and Norris; and sisters, Eileen, Erma, Corabelle, Inez, Meredith, Betty, Margaret, and Barbara.

A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m., Monday, February 23, 2026, at Wagley Funeral Home, Tagsold Chapel, in Blissfield, with Rev. Larry Betz officiating and military honors conducted by American Legion Post #325. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 11 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. A luncheon will follow the service.
